Timmy finally pooped in the toilet yesterday!! He has been toilet trained for pee for about 6 months now, but refused to poop in the toilet and would save it for nap time or bed time when he wears a diaper. Edith made a nice potty poster based on the one in a book called Lift the Lid, Use the Potty, and he got plenty of stars on it.

When we had trouble getting him to poop in the potty, Edith made him another poster.

As you can see, there are no stars on it. Only a few disdainful scribbles. We tried bribing him with his favorite treats, using Miralax to soften his stools, and explaining that his poop wanted to go down the toilet to the poop party under the house, but nothing worked. Potty training is not something that can be forced, so we let him poop in his diaper for the last several months. Yesterday, he was using the toilet to pee, and a poop came out too. I think it may have been accidental, but hubby and I praised him like crazy and let him have a Halloween candy, which we are rationing, so he was really happy. He went 2 more times because he was so excited. Unfortunately, he still pooped in his diaper twice after bedtime, but today he went in the toilet again, and the poop in his bedtime diaper was a lot smaller than usual. Hopefully we won’t have to change poopy diapers much longer!

And since I’m talking about poop, I wanted to share something I found highly amusing in a medical article about constipation. As a pediatrician and mother of a 3-year-old boy, an appreciation for poop humor is pretty much a requirement!
